Book four of my fan-favourite Gothic mystery series is out today on ebook (paperback to follow soon). My oh my what an exhausting twelve months it has been. You would think that having cancer and chemo was the hardest part, sometimes it isn’t. Dealing with post-cancer life and the vast and unfamiliar changes it brings to you both mentally and physically is proving one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to deal with. On top of this, we (my family) have had to deal with other serious family illness, severe depression, threats to our financial security, uncertain futures, and continuing extensive house repairs and renovations. Honestly, I am beyond flabbergasted that I have managed to get a book out at all this year and come out the other end of it with my sanity in tact.
This is book four of the Midnight Gunn series which is set in Victorian London. The series is a kind of mash up between Sherlock and Penny Dreadful with a touch of X-Files thrown in for good measure. The first in the series- The Hollows- has sold over 25,000 copies so far (nae too bad for and Indie), has won two awards for excellence in writing, and is stocked in several bricks-and-mortar stores around the world. I must be doing something right I guess haha. It is a niche genre yes but my fans are devout and loyal and feed my tentative wee ego with rave reviews, and they continue to buy and enjoy my wee stories for which I am eternally grateful. There is nothing more satisfying as an author than knowing you bring joy and pleasure to others through your words and imagination. I say it all the time but I feel very privileged to wear the badge of ‘Storyteller’.
If you have not yet started the series here is the link to all things ‘C.L. Monaghan’ where you can find info on my fan clubs, and the buy links for all seven of my books.

America- The Deep South
How did a noble mission to ensure the safe return of his daughter’s governess to New York, end with Midnight Gunn being stranded on an island off the coast of South Carolina, alone and in the middle of a brutal conflict?
Listening to the dying screams of a village as it burns, Midnight faces a journey home to his beloved family under threat of discovery and death. A trail of blood and superstition have plagued his time in the dark forests and swamps of the south. He must escape before ‘she’ catches his scent once again. As he stands on the shoreline, ragged and exhausted, Midnight must risk everything and enter a strangely familiar world in an effort to escape what hunts him. The only problem being that what lay in front of him, may yet prove more dangerous than what he is running from.
